End of March

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Here are the first Mountain blocks.  Two finished, one cut ready to sew and one before cutting.  I’m almost finished cutting up the shirts!

The crumb blocks keep on growing…..I think I’ll use them as leader enders as I work on the Mountain blocks if I can keep the scrap salad under control : )

More Crumb Blocks

Here’s a closer picture of some of them.  I really like them but am pondering what color of sashing to use to pull it all together.

More Fun :)

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

I just can’t believe how much fun I’m having with these crumb blocks. I now have 15 squared up 6 1/2″ blocks and quite a few more growing :-) .

Crumb Fun

I couldn’t wait to finish cutting up the shirts for the Mountain (Scrappy Mountain Majesties is too long to write everytime) quilt so I’ve cut a couple of 8 1/2″ squares that I’ll sew up this weekend.

Scrap Salad

Monday, March 24th, 2008

So I’ve squared up some of the crumb blocks and look at my “scrap salad”!! I have several more blocks in progress and am having such fun with these.

A couple of us at work are learning to make crocheted rugs from fabric strips. I bought a sheet from Goodwill this weekend and cut it into strips. The blue & white piece under the ball is another sheet waiting to be stripped.

Weekend Accomplishments

I finished the binding on Thimbleberry Village quilt this weekend and will add a label tonight.  Another completed quilt, YEA!!   Village Quilt

I also cut, sewed and ironed the binding to go on my Tiger Lily quilt.  I’ll sew it on to the quilt soon.  I hand appliqued this quilt and my mother did the quilting.

Here’s a few close-ups of the quilting details on the Village quilt which was also quilted by my mom.

I messed around a bit in my sewing room making a string block to see how they go together and some crumb blocks.

I’m trying to decide if I want to keep the crumbs I’ve saved…..

I’ll play around with them a bit more as I’m not sure if I like doing these or not.

And the Shirts Keep Piling Up

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Light shirts are finished and I’m making a dent in the dark ones.  And look at all the shirt buttons!  The box is from candy I received for the holidays.  The square flap folds over and the small flap folds over on top and has a magnet in it to hold it closed….way to nice to just throw away!

Go Steelers

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

This weekend I sewed the borders on the Steelers baby quilt and pieced the back so it’s ready to be quilted.   It doesn’t seem to photograph well but it’s nice a bright, perfect for a little boy :)

More Quilting!!

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

I finished two charity quilts this weekend. I broke a needle and knocked the timing out on my machine for the first time. It only took one phone call, albeit a long one, to my dad to get the timing re-set. I did free motion quilting on both of these quilts. After the last pantograph, I wanted less stressful quilting. One of these quilts was a bit wavy and I wanted to give it special attention to see if I could “quilt it out”. I think I did a pretty good job. I have one more left to quilt as we are trying to get these finished up to make our donation deadline.

Here’s the wavy quilt (click to see larger picture):

And here’s a redwork quilt.

Longarm Quilting

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

Here’s a couple more charity quilts I finished this week.  The stamped cross stiched panel and the embroidered blocks were donated to the guild and a member pieced the tops.  I decided to use a pantograph on the panel one even though it would go on top of the cross stitching and free motioned the embroidered blocks.  I need more practice (which is why there isn’t a close up of the stitching, Mumsy).
