Saturday, January 31st, 2009So here’s the cut resistant glove my DH bought for me.

I think the medium size is a tad big…….

I might see what some of the local chef shops have but for now I’ll work with this one

Last night when we got home it was sleeting/snowing and there was about four inches of sleet/snow on the ground. Luckily we made it up the drive

Then this morning there was a big layer of fluffy snow…….
Isn’t it wonderful?
It was still dark out when I left for work so the pictures are a bit gloomy but it is so beautiful!!
How about some quilting pictures? Here are some 3 1/2″ nine patches I made as leader/enders while sewing borders. Not sure what I’ll use them for yet but they are pretty cute.
At our quilt guild meeting we did screen printing. One of our members has a thermofax machine that will “print” an image on special plastic screening which is then framed and you have a screen to print with.
What a terrific demo meeting it was. You can see I used three different colors of ink and two colors of fabric. What a blast. Thanks Pat!!!!
We went to the Museum of the American Quilter’s Society and it was wonderful. There is a special exhibit of quilts by Suzanne Marshall and Linda Roy and they are truly wonderful. The amount of work that goes into their quilts is amazing.
It was also fun to see a quilt by Judith Larzelere in the museum. I didn’t know they owned one of her’s so it was a pleasant surprise to it hanging there. I took a workshop from Judith in conjunction with the Quintessential Quilt 2005 show in University City, MO in 2005 and I love the piece I made.
I really like her work. I spotted one of her pieces at a local bank building shortly after taking her workshop. The title of this quilt is “Summer” and was in Quilt National in ‘83.
It was fun to spot another one of her quilts at the museum. You can check out a new quilt of Judith’s here.
My finger is doing well….the stitches come out Thursday, yea!!
First a warning, don’t look past the snow pictures if you are squeamish as I’ve posted cut finger pics.
So my SIL sent me a couple of pictures…….
Isn’t that a great snowman? I think she’s rubbing in the abundance of snow they have. It’s even snowing as the puppy dogs are waiting to come in and check out how much snow is on the table behind the dogs!!!!
My finger is on the mend but the glue on the fingernail sure makes it look awful. I guess the cleaning stuff and blood are stuck in the glue because I can’t get it any cleaner. You can’t really tell where the nail was cut because of all the glue but it goes from the cut on the finger you can see by the stitches in a nice curved arc just to the right side of the center of the nail. Stops about 1/8″ from the end. Nice huh? Last night the DS called an he smashed the end of one of his fingers and broke the bone at the tip. No stitches because it’s just smashed to death but I’ll bet much more painful. The rest of the family is opting out of the hurt finger game!

Yea!!! Finally we got some snow, okay so it was only a dusting, but it covered the ground and crunched under foot. Seems like many places are having record amounts of snow and the St Louis area has been left out
So what did I accomplish on this holiday weekend? See the Minky strip sewn into the backing for the Dino quilt? Love that Minky.
And this:
What’s this!!!
You turn your back and look who finds themselves a comfy spot, Rail kitty, that’s who.
And here’s the second Mountain quilt being sewn together using Bonnie Hunter’s webbing the top method.
And with the first border…..
So all was going along fine and I was cutting up a shirt for the second border when a small accident occurred. Gee those rotary cutters are sharp:

My old rotary cutter doesn’t close automatically but my husband bought me a new one that does so I was feeling like the “old dropping the rotary on my foot” fear was history. Just wasn’t watching out for the old jump the ruler and cut the finger trick. Three and a half hours, three stitches, some glue (for the fingernail) and I’m on the mend. I think there’s a cutting glove in my future……
A friend I work with asks if I want a box of fabric scraps. Why of course I do, you never know what treasures you may find. They are just scraps, not big pieces she says. Still the answer is yes. Here’s what came out of the box first:
And some more…..
And then, bonanza!!! There are 112 of these blocks and as you can see there are parts of quite a few more. Check out those fabrics. I didn’t measure the blocks, but I’m guessing they are 10″ since they fit in the copy paper box without folding.
How do you like my new shirt?
After seeing Bonnie Hunter’s blog about these shirts I ordered one up
I’ve finally gotten around to washing up all the fabric I’ve acquired since going to Paducah last April. This is a piece I bought in Seoul when I visited my daughter in South Korea last June. Talk about a wide salvage!!!
