Sewing Machine II

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Here’s the Remington sewing machine.  “Front” is written on one side of the cover which is perfectly logical as you wouldn’t want to lift it anymore than necessary!

Here’s a shot of the label on the Singer shown in my previously post:

I finished my First Saturday block Saturday morning ;)   Nothing like last minute sewing!

first-satWhile I was at the Quilted Fox for the First Saturday, I just happened to pick up a few “Fox Tails” (the small cuts from the tail end of bolts) and a couple more cuts from the sale bolts.  I had to use up my gift certificate, right???

fabric-1I picked up some solids to mess around with.  Tonya at Lazy Gal Quilting does free pieced letters and lots of other free piecing.  She uses solids a lot and she’s inspired me to work with some.

solidsI got the binding machine sewed down on the baby quilt and cut some more pieces for the backs of the Mountain quilts this weekend but nothing photo worthy.  I also got 5 or 6 more little nine patches done as leader/enders.  Shoot, maybe I’ll have enough to make a large quilt out of them……okay, maybe a throw sized quilt :)

Here’s a picture of the latest sewing machine I acquired for my Dad.

100_2076A co-worker said I have a sewing machine from my Grandma, would you be interested in giving it a good home?  Well, of course!  It’s a Singer but there isn’t a model number and I haven’t seen any pictures exactly like it.  It might be from the 1950′s????  It needs a good clean up but looks like it might be in pretty darn good shape.
Another co-worker said she had a REALLY heavy sewing machine she was looking to give to a nice home.  Would I be interested?  Of couse!  Boy she wasn’t kidding!  It’s a real boat anchor.  Stay tuned for pictures :)

Super Shopping on Superbowl Sunday

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

The Quilted Fox, as most LQS’s do, had a Superbowl Sunday sale.  Since I happened to have received a gift certificate to the Quilted Fox for Christmas, it seemed as though I must go to the sale :)

100_2074-desktop-resolutionThe large pieces were 40% off so I was obliged to purchase at least 2 yards ; )  I actually bought the rest of the bolt on the orange flowers and bright strip pieces.  I’m thinking of using the orange flower piece to recover my big ironing board as it would be fun to look at.  The smaller pieces are half yard cuts of fabric that I liked….not on sale!!!!  Hey, just using my gift certificate to stimulate the economy.

Weekend Progress

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Here’s the second mountain top with both borders finished.  I was cutting the dark plaid for the outer border when I had my way-too-close encounter with the rotary cutter.

I’ve started piecing the backs for both mountain quilts so maybe I’ll be able to throw one on the quilting machine soon.

I finished quilting the dinosaur quilt.  I had trouble with the thread breaking so I adjusted the tension TWICE but eventually I got it working just right :)   I took the time to bury the thread ends in the quilt and boy my eyes got a work out threading the needle especially since the thread broke so many times.  I’ve trimmed it up and have the binding all ready to sew on.  I might get to that tonight but I still have my First Saturday block to get finished for Saturday.
