Chinese or Stacked Coins

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

I’ve been seeing some wonderful coin quilts on several blogs lately.  I just might have to add one to my list ;)   I just updated my project list on my blog (see page link on right hand side) and I can’t add another thing to my list until I finish at least one project currently in the works.  I really need to complete some of the in progress quilts, I really must as it takes a lot of time to get re-acquainted with a project if you’ve left it sit for awhile.  Any way,  I must really like the Chinese coins pattern because a while back I saved a picture of this antique quilt which is a variation on the coin quilts.

Just Misc Stuff

Happy Monday :)   The weather was absolutely beautiful this weekend.   I have daffodils on the verge of blooming, the birds are signing in the morning and it was nice enough to have the windows open…….spring is here :)

I went to the First Saturday and I started cutting the pieces out.  I was doing this while spending time in the basement when the tornado sirens were going off.   There were two confirmed tornadoes but neither one was in our county.

I also snagged some free fabric from a donation to our quilt guild which I plan to use in crocheted rugs.  I had a sheet and one of the fabrics cut already and I wound them into balls this weekend.   The bigger the rugs get, the more “yarn” you need for one round so while it seems I have lots of “yarn”, it gets used very quickly.  Then I’m stuck with colors that don’t match so I’m still collecting fabric for these rugs and free is good!  I’ve been given two old flannel sheets sets which I think will make a wonderfully soft rug.

Crocheted Rug Progress

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Since I was busy hand quilting on our trip this past weekend and then finished it while I was there, I brought along the rug I’ve been working on to have something to work on for the return trip.  The rug is growing……it’s getting big and bulky.

Rail, what are you doing on the rug?

Okay, no more gratuitous pictures of the cat, here’s a picture of the rug ;)

How Much Can You Get in a Bag?

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

We visited family this weekend and my SIL & I went to The Quilters General Store.  We found a bin with fabric scraps and all you could fit in the bag was $5.  Here’s a picture of the bag:

plastic-bagThe only catch was the bag had to zip closed!  My SIL did a great job stuffing as she got all of these pieces in the bag and got it to zip shut :)

scrapsSweet!!  I’m very happy with this particular addition to my stash because the majority are from Jo Morton.

In addition to the bin, they also had several bolts at 50% off .  The smaller black piece is a fat quarter that I paid full price for but the other two 1 yard cuts of black and the 2 1/4 yard cut (I bought the rest of the bolt)  of light were 50% off.  Good times :)

s-fabricThey had lots of neat quilt samples and the store was busy…….guess quilters have their priorities even in these times!

Last, a picture of some pot holders I made before Christmas.  I gave a couple to my SIL this weekend so it’s safe to put them on my blog now ;)   These were fun and I used the walking foot on my Featherweight to do the quilting.

Mini Finishes & Things

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

First up, I checked in with my tech support, my DB, and I’ve updated the pictures so they can now be clicked and enlarged.  YEA!

I finished my first two hand quilting projects.  These mini’s are 12″ x 18″ but they gave me enough experience to know I’ll  doing more hand quilting.  I don’t have high expectations for having too many more stitches per inch that what I’ve got now but I do enjoy hand quilting.  The first one was finished before Christmas and the second one was just finished this weekend.  I couldn’t show them before now because they are gifts :)   I’m pretty happy with the way they turned out.

And here is a picture from Camp Follower Bags and Quilts with my two quilt blocks in it :)   I’m thinking they fit right in ;)
