St Louis’ City Garden

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Wow!  St Louis’ new City Garden is terrific.  It opened July 1st and we visited it this on Saturday while taking in the fesivities for baseball’s All Star Home Run Derby and All Star Game which are July 13th & 14th.  Here’s a link to an article about the City Garden from the San Jose, California Mercury News and another link from Kansas City.   It was hot and way too humid to be walking around but the City Garden was quite fun.  There is lots of lighting and I want to return and see the park in the evening sometime.  There is a restaurant that hasn’t opened yet so maybe we’ll check it out too. I took lots of pictures and here are some of them.

Check out the three cops sitting there……there were lots and lots of police out and about because of the All Star activities.

Foxey Fassett First Sat Finishes

Monday, July 13th, 2009

At the First Saturday at the Quilted Fox we got to see three quilt tops made from the Foxey Fassett blocks.

The owner, Louise Georgia, put her blocks together with a wonderful Fassett border.

Another quilter, Jane Coons, added 2″ sashing with a Fassett fabric pieced in to connect the blocks.  This one is already quilted and waiting for binding!

Both of the above quilts used the main and alternate blocks.  The quilt below used only the main blocks but included some additional piecing.

I haven’t yet decided exactly how I’ll finish these and I have yet to complete the blocks from the last First Saturday, but I’m leaning towards the layout of the second quilt.  The additional white space seems to calm the whole quilt down.

The next First Saturday begins in August and is Asian Surprise.   Before we’ve never seen the quilt layout at the beginning so it was a surprise to see a drawing of the next one.  The colors in each block will be different which is a signature of Louise’s First Saturday programs.  I’ve signed up for the alternate block for this one so the expected finished size is 62 x 86.  I typically don’t care for Asian fabrics but Louise’s quilts are always beautiful and make wonderful gifts.
