On Keeping Useless Things
Remember when AOL inundated our mailboxes with CD’s for 1,000’s of hours FREE? Well, I kind of liked watching the changing look of the packaging, some came on a piece of cardboard with plastic wrap, some came in DVD plastic containers, some in plastic CD holders and some in cool tins. They always seemed to remind me of other products, in particular the one in the photo below (top middle) that looks like old Tide packaging. It seemed like such a waste….I remember people sending them to AOL headquarters to make that point. Anyway, I kept them and my family started giving them to me but not without some ribbing, you can be sure.
Well, guess what? I’ve found a use for them!!! Our quilt guild directs a quilt show (more info on this can be found here) and we are making the prize ribbons this year. This will save us money and make the ribbons unique and, I think, more special. Anyway, thanks to this tutorial, we have a use for these CD’s. We needed 46 cd’s and I more than a sufficient quantity
Speaking of waste though, here’s the pile of trash I have after unwrapping all the CD’s ![]()
I’ll post pics of the ribbons when we’ve gotten them completed!
