Vintage Sleeve Board

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

I was given this vintage tailor sleeve board with point turner by a co-worker who’s mother has moved into a smaller place.  If anyone is interested it this, please leave me a comment.  All I ask is for you to pay the shipping.  We’d like for it to have a nice home :)

Quilt Cats

Casper (the gray one) and Simontacchi (the striped one) are keeping warm on the quilt.   They don’t like snow!  I have no idea why.

Snow, We Finally Got Snow!

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Seems like all parts of the country have had cold and snow but in the St Louis area, most of our precip has been rain.  Yeah, okay there was one day with some snow but it didn’t amount to much.   I love snow.  I love the way it makes everything look so different, muffles sound and squeaks and crunches when you walk on it.  Okay, don’t send the thugs over to beat me up, I know lots of folks don’t like snow and I do feel bad for the folks who’ve received yards of it, but I love it! And last night we got some snow :)   I took these pictures on my way to work this morning…..the birds are glad the bird bath de-icer is working ;)

Vicksburg #3

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

I finished the 4th Vicksburg BOM from Linen Closet Quilts.   The pattern has circles on top of the ribbons but both I and DH prefer the block without the circles so it’s done :)   I haven’t completed the 3rd BOM, which are pieced blocks, and now the 5th BOM is out!  It’s a really cute block but has lots of pieces.

Here are my other two blocks and I’m still not sure about the fabric I used for the flowers…….hey there’s the green fabric that lurked so long on my design wall ;)

Fabric Additions

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Here are pictures of the fabric additions I had to include in my first 2010 stash report.  First is the fabric I picked up at the Acorn Quilts fabric store in Rockford, IL.   The fabrics are on my big board….don’t you love my ironing board cover :)   Well, I do!

The two on the right are Spice Market and where on sale for 50% off.  The two on the left are civil war reproductions and the one in the middle is a beautiful dark red which I plan to use for the solid alternate blocks in a small 9-patch quilt.

These are the pieces I ordered from Connecting Threads for $2.98/yard.  These fabrics have a nice hand to them even after being washed.  I want to hold my judgment of these until I’ve cut into them and see how they fray and stretch but so far they seem to be on par with other fabric lines.  Funny, the one in the middle, Shooting Star, looks like it’s wrong side out but it isn’t.

Oh Crumbs

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Here’s what’s on my design wall for this first Monday in 2010!  Check out what other folks are working on at Judy’s Design Wall Monday post.

M DWM

Despite wanting to get a top finished in 2009 so I could count the fabric as “used” in my stash report, I decided the crumb quilt needed more.   So I pull out the “scrap salad” and started making some 4 1/2″ crumb blocks for a border.

Scrap Salad

I only used 2 more yards of fabric, for the snuggler, by Dec 31st so I ended the year with approximately 1/2 yard added to my stash.  Heck, that’s close enough for me to call it even. :)

FINAL 2009 STASH REPORT:

Added:  0     Cumulative Added: ~ 25 yds

Used: 2         Cumulative Used: ~24 1/2 yds

Net Out/(In): (~ 1/2 yds)

I put together some of the 3″ nine patches I’ve made so I’d have a project to work on to improve my hand quilting.  Here’s the finished quilt which I gave as a Christmas present.  I quilted free-hand Baptist Fans compliments of Lazy Gal Quilting. I’m quite happy with the results and hope the recipient likes it too.

Mini

I’m busy hand quilting an applique project I did maybe 3 or 4 years ago.  I’m having to take bigger quilting stitches and I’m doing echo quilting so we’ll see if I like the results as much as this little mini.

Green Fabric Revealed

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Finally get to show what the green fabric hanging out on my design wall is for!  My SIL gave me some scraps from a quilt she made.  There was about 6 different fabrics and stacks of them cut in 2 3/4 by 1 3/4 rectangles.  Well, I thought wow, these are perfect for a stacked coin quilt.  So here’s the quilt:

I wanted a green fabric and just couldn’t find a piece in my stash.  I mentioned I needed to go shopping and my husband walked over to the shelves and pulled out this green and asked, “What’s wrong with this one?”  Well, nothing was wrong as it matched perfectly.  I also found a great red for the borders.  I was quite happy with the quilt and Sofie was wonderful quilting it up.  No thread breakage at all and the only frogging (unstitching) was due to my displeasure with my free motion quilting ;(

I think it was a success as Connie seemed to like it although she didn’t immediately recognize her fabric scraps :)   I named this quilt Leftover Coins…..since it was made from Connie’s leftover scraps.  I might be in trouble because Connie will be expecting quilts from all the scraps she gives me ;)
