Yo-Yo Sisterhood of the Traveling Panties

Friday, April 30th, 2010

I once again participated in the annual Yo-Yo Sisterhood of the Traveling Panties spring event by Ami Simms :)   This is the second annual panty dying event held by Ami and I’m proud to be an inaugural member.  You can read Ami’s post here about the dying event.  I sent three pair this year and look at the lovely colors they were dyed.  Brilliant blue, shocking pink and a lovely spring green.  Woo Hoo, thanks Ami!!

More Paducah and Finished Blocks

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Here are my traveling companions at Paducah :)   We had a great trip, thanks Darlene & Darlene!

A couple of folks spotted us in a local TV news bit which was fun to hear about…..and we spotted Quilter Man on his Segway!  Notice the tape measure and rotary cutter hanging from his tool belt?!?!

I completed block 6 for the Pinwheel Party quilt for both the navy and orange versions and block 7 in orange.

I also finally finished another of the Folk Art Sampler blocks from Australian Patchwork & Quilting Vol 12 No12 & 13 from 2007.   I now have 5 of the 9 blocks completed……mmmm started in 2007, half way done in 2010, blocks should be finished sometime in 2013.

Design Wall

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Happy Design Wall Monday!!  Check out what other quilters are actually getting accomplished at Judy DWM post. Since I’m not getting much done I thought I’d at least take a new picture :)   Actually I did get some sewing done and I have the leader-ender half square triangles on my wall to prove it (on the right, see them, yep they are new).  I have the 6th and 7th Pinwheel Party blocks almost completed for both the blue & orange quilts but the 8th & 9th ones are already posted.  Yikes!!

What I finished is my April First Saturday blocks.  Just in time too because May 1st is Saturday!

Paducah Haul and AAQI Auction

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Paducah was fun and the quilts were amazing.  Had a hard time picking my favorite, as usual.  It was fun to see my latest obsession, Molly & her Owlets, at the show ;)

I was very good at the quilt show this year.  I bought things but not too many.  I bought fabric but not too much.  I had loads of fun and ate lots of good stuff, especially the Boy Scout’s strawberry short cake….yummy.

Yep, that’s it :)   Thirty yards of fabric, a Gwen Marston book, new pair of scissors, tumbler template, sewing machine needles, couple of spools of thread (hand quilting, silk and trilobal polyester — went to the thread lecture by Dr. Bob), Cherrywood grab bag, show books and a purse from Kenya!  Oh, yeah, and the red blob to the right is a popcorn shirt I picked up as well!

Some of the fabric pictured above is a gift but I got some reproduction prints and some other yummy fabric.

While I was gone, I received an email letting me know my AAQI quilt is up for the May auction!!!  Yippeeeee.  The “slow & silent” auction starts May 1st through May 10th.  Mine is quilt #4965.  Here’s hoping it sells.

There is one by Suzanne Marshall (#4961) who’s quilt at Paducah won FIRST in the Small Wall Quilts-Hand Quilted category.  Suzanne’s entry in the AQS Lancaster show won BEST Handworkmanship Award for “Vases”.   Suzanne doesn’t sell her work so this is a chance to own a piece of her beautiful hand workmanship.

Paducah Bound

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Tomorrow Darlene, Darlene & I will be heading to Paducah…yep Darlene S. and Darlene S……hey wait that doesn’t help!!!  Darlene 1 and I have been going to Paducah together for many years and always have loads of fun.  This year we are joined by Darlene 2 and I’m sure we’ll be having even more fun :)   The entire city of Paducah welcomes the quilters and it’s quite the party atmosphere.

DWM & Fun!

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Yep, still the same stuff on the design wall.  Check out the progress other quilters have made at Judy’s Design Wall Monday post.  I have made progress on the Pinwheel Party blocks:

The pieces are cut and marked for the next two blocks for both the navy and orange quilts ;)

We took a visit up north to Rockford, the land of all-you-can-stuff-scrap-bags, and I finished the binding on the second Scrappy Mountain Majesties quilt (pattern via Bonnie Hunter’s Quiltville website) on the way.

At the Quilter’s General Store my SIL worked her magic, filling two scrap bags with all these wonderful, yummy fabrics.  She is amazing, rolling and folding all the pieces I give her and getting the bags tight as sausages, woo hoo!   The majority of them are Jo Morton’s!!

I also picked up several other pieces of Jo Morton fabrics and a spool of hand quilting thread…..sweet!

While leads us to the stash report which I HAVE to post as my SIL and Lori will be watching for it and reporting any discrepancies ;(

Vicksburg 5 Finished

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

I finished the applique last night on block 5 of the Vicksburg Free BOM, yea!!!  Now I only have blocks 6 & 7 to finish and then I’ll be caught up.

Hand sewing the binding down on this quilt is almost completed as well :)

DWM

Monday, April 12th, 2010

The weather in St Louis this weekend was FABULOUS!  I didn’t sew anything except a leaf or two on my Vicksburg block so the design wall looks the same as it has for the past two weeks! But other quilters have been busy and you can check them out at Judy’s Design Wall Monday post.

In anticipation of the growing season, my DH purchased a rain barrel :)   I’ve been talking about them for a while and there’s a special deal going on for Belleville residents, so he jumped on it.

You can get details at the Prairie Rain Harvester company but it has an overflow hose which not all rain barrels have.   We get to pick it up on May 1st, woo hoo.   Now I just have to convince him we don’t need ours painted like this one ;)

Fun Stuff

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Tonight I will be attending a show by Ricky Tims.  Ricky was living in St Louis and working as a church choral director when he joined Thimble & Thread quilt guild who is hosting the show.  Ricky was also a member of the guild I belong to, Circle in the Square, and many of the long term members remember him fondly and have plenty of funny Ricky stories.  We will be there in force tonight for his show :)

Also, The Quilted Fox is hosting Kaffe Fassett for a book signing April 19th.  I’ve pre-ordered Kaffe’s book and look forward to finally getting a peak at the book other bloggers have been raving about.

Most exciting of all though is our annual trip to PADUCAH!!!  We are leaving in 12 days and look forward to taking advantage of a church supper, an wonderful meal at Patti’s, going to the Rotary show, a trip (or two or three) to Hancock’s of Paducah, lunch at Kirchoff’s, a stroll past the Paducah flood wall murals, being the guest of a Paducah resident in her home and, most important, the AQS quilt show, oh, and shopping!!  :) :) :)

Pinwheel Party Continues

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

I finished block 5 of the Pinwheel Party last night.  The Orange pinwheels must have grown overnight :(   After I sewed the three together, the unit was too big.  I even squared up my half square triangles…grrrrrr.
