Hot Design Wall Monday

Wow has it been hot!!  We received a break in the temps which are only supposed to hit 88 today but the forecast has them back into the 90’s with HIGH humidity so heat indexes will again be in the 100’s.   Yuck 🙁  I did some sewing in my somewhat cool basement so here’s what’s on my wall:


I’m thinking about using this Kona green for my grandmothers flower garden blocks….nice, bright & fresh.   See those 1/2 sq triangles?   They are for the new quilt I started this weekend.  I was able to get the block pieces cut and the triangles sewn & trimmed to size.


Believe it or not, this is a gift for a wedding which makes more sense when you know it’s a Steelers/Pirates/Penquins themed quilt.   And the deadline is Sept 1st!!!  I also sewed some more of the Pinwheel Party sashing for the navy quilt so it’s still coming along 🙂

Friday Night Sew-In Pictures

Here are my results from my Friday night sewing.  I finished the little pinwheels for the Pinwheel Party blue & orange quilts and started sewing the sashings on the blue one.

While sewing these, I made these cute 1  1/4″ half square triangles leader/ender style along with adding a couple of more strips to my crumb house block and this purple piece (leftovers from trimming down a couple of pinwheel blocks).  Fun times!


Friday Night Sew-In

I’m going to participate in the Friday Night Sew-In…..TONIGHT!

Can’t wait to get home, change into comfy clothes and get sewing, or cutting or both.  Anything but go outside in the 98, feels like 108 degree heat!

Design Wall Monday

Here’s what’s on my design wall.  Yes, the hexie papers arrived 🙂  We were traveling this weekend so I basted lots of hexies and sewed up a few flowers.  Judy’s DWM post has links to other design walls….be sure to check them out here.

I’m using 3/4″ pieces since that’s the size that was in the free sampler.   I don’t know what I’ll do with these flowers yet.  They sure are cute and if nothing else I can applique them onto a quilt.



Word Play Quilts

I was reading Lynne’s blog today.  She mentions making a four letter word for Tonya awhile back and it made it onto the cover of Tonya’s new book, Word Play Quilts.  I, too, made a word for Tonya:

OMG, it’s on the cover too!!!!  Top right, see it??  Woo hoo, now I -have- to get Tonya’s book although that was never in doubt 😉  Lynne has used letters in her quilts a lot and they are terrific.  She’s an artist and, boy, does it show in her work……I’m not surprised at all that Lynne may have a quilt pictured in Tonya’s new book.
