Hexies

Friday, August 13th, 2010

After getting my hexies well underway, I’ve found another layout I really like…..wouldn’t you just know it?  Check out this post on the Quilts On The Way blog and the photo on the bottom left.  Guess I’ll have to try it on another hexie quilt ;)

I got my first blocks for the new First Saturday, the Wild Fox at The Quilted Fox.   Both the main block and the alternate block are sewn and ready to go…yep 3 weeks early.

Number Twelve

Here is the 12th block of the Asian Surprise First Saturday BOM.

I finished it up last night along with the alternate block:

Carla at Feathered Fibers has posted creative exercises.  She’s encouraged us to do them and post them on our blog.  Here’s the first one:

I’m thinking I need a whole lot more practice!!  So as to not sign off with such a sorry sight, here’s a crumb block I made last night as my leader/ender from the First Sat blocks.

Its Another Design Wall Monday

Monday, August 9th, 2010

I may have been distracted this weekend by the second Steig Larsson book “The Girl Who Played with Fire“  and didn’t get much sewing done.  I did however, finish the book.  I like these books (thanks Jennifer) and think the second one is even better than the first one.  I didn’t start the third book right away for fear I wouldn’t get any sewing done at all!

On my design wall is the webbed (ala Bonnie Hunter) Steelers top.  I like the black fabric in the sashing and picked the yellow Steelers fabric for the cornerstones vs the plain yellow which seemed a bit flat.  Now I just need to sew the rows together.  Since the outer border will be black Steelers fabric, it needs the narrow inner border and I have the enough of each of the reds and the brightest blue.  Right now, I’m leaning towards the blue.

I’ve continued working on the hexies :)

Quilting with Sophie

Friday, August 6th, 2010

I quilted another Downy Touch of Comfort quilt with the free hand flowers and Sophie did pretty well as long as I kept my speed down.  This time when I made some of the the flowers, I went back around them and it worked out nicely.  They ask for these quilts to be quilted densely since they will be washed a lot.

I’m continuing to work on the hexie flowers and I decided to go with the green for the path.  Once I made the decision, I couldn’t wait to add a few to see how it looked.  I’m loving it! :)

Design Wall Time :)

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

It’s just another manic Monday, oh woe…….The Bangles Manic Monday is running through my head.  Which makes it seem like I’m in a melancholy mood and you might think I have nothing new for Design Wall Monday.  Not so!

I finished the blocks for the Steelers quilt (the Penguins and Pirates don’t have any licensed fabric on the market right now so it’s just a Steelers quilt) and I’m happy with the way they’ve turned out.   After I took the picture I realized two of the blocks are upside down.   I’ll make sure to have them all right side up when I add the sashing ;)

The flowers are still growing although I think I’ll cut the green fabric so I can start adding the “path” to them.

The navy version of the Pinwheel Party quilt is all together except for the final border.  I’m pretty happy with the way it’s turned out although you can’t tell from this horrible picture.  I’ll have to enlist a helper to get a better photo.

Last, Dawn at Linen Closet Quilts has given the final directions for her FREE Vicksburg BOM.  I can’t wait to get caught up on this one……those swags will be fun to stitch!

PS.  Lori, no, there’s no stash report.  I’m not telling how much of the flower fabric I bought….at least until I can count some out going stash!! VBG
