It’s just plain freezing outside with a temperature of 13 degrees at 5:45 am this morning.  With the wind, it feels like -4!!  For those in climates where this is normal for weeks on end, you are hardy souls, for us in the Greater St Louis area, BRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr.  It seems appropriate the RSC color of the month is blue and here they are on my design wall.  Pop over to Judy’s DWM post to what everyone else is working on.

DWM 12714

I prepped the center piece of the Apple Pie Ridge block for the BBWQ.  I’m sure I won’t finish it by Feb 1st but I’m going to try and catch up.  The outside edges have been creased over the freezer paper (that’s been removed) leaving the edge wanting to fold under and I needle turn.  For the inside edge I’m going to mark the turn line and cut away the fabric as I applique.  Who knows, I might like that method better than my freezer paper way.

Strings & Things

Since my box of blue strings was out……I sewed up a few 6 1/2″ string blocks.  I’m either going to cut across the strings and insert a contrasting strip of fabric or make half square triangles.  Guess we’ll see what happens 😉

RSC Blue StringsThe last time I was thrifting shirts, it was evidently orange/peach day.  Which is what happens when you’re looking for bright purples and greens, right? 😉  Here’s the shirts I showed previously followed by my half of the shared shirts that I picked up last week.

GW HaulGW OrangePeachThat’s a total of 7 shirts with orange/peach in them.   Here are all the “shared” reclaimed shirts…..adding to the stash, again.

GW ThriftedI won the door prize at our quilt guild meeting last night and this was the prize.

Door PrizeOne of our members worked at one time for Mary Engelbeit and she donated this bundle…..I’m SO very glad I won 🙂

Beautiful Monday

It’s the middle of January and it’s going to hit 46 degrees today……MUST. ENJOY…….high tomorrow 19 degrees!!!!!

Some liberated churn dash/monkey wrench blocks from the RSC14 have been added to my design wall.  Here’s the link to Judy’s Design Wall Monday post.

DWM 1-20-14I’ve started prepping the first block for the Benjamin Biggs Wedding quilt (BBWQ) from Just Takes 2.  I decided to modify the pattern as some of the others have done and I’m pretty happy with it.  Here it’s seen with my freezer paper template ironed to the wrong side of the fabric which is my usual way of doing needle turn applique……cut it out, iron in the edges, remove the freezer paper, baste to background and sew.

BBWQ Block 1 PrepI snagged a couple of half yards of greens and one of red this weekend at the Calico Moon just for this project.  Wouldn’t you know I liked the Jo Morton prints 😉  I’m excited to get started on this two year odyssey.
