When Lynne of Patchery Menagerie came to teach & lecture at our Quintessential Quilt 2013 show, she traveled with her friend Julie of Me and My Quilts – Exploring Possibilities. Julie’s made several quilts using leftovers, including “duds” from Lynne’s quilting endeavors. We put up a design wall at our quilt show so visitors could play and I brought in some of my personal parts and orphans to populate it. I felt some of my parts/orphans needed to mix it up with Julie’s, so I asked her to take what inspired her. It’s so much fun because Julie has used my orphans three times now!! 🙂 The latest project she made is a table runner on this post.
It uses the left over blocks from these quilts:
One was also used in one of Victoria’s Kitchen Sink quilts, Ragamuffin…..it’s the date block, lol.
It’s so fun to see these live on in new projects, lol.
The background fabric for my Benjamin Biggs project finally arrived! I decided on Moda Bella natural which is available in extra wide backing so I ordered 3 1/2 yards. It was on sale at Hancock’s of Paducah for $4.99/half yard so it was only $35 – an awesome price.
Now I can get started on the first Benjamin Biggs Wedding quilt block, woot, woot. The blocks, available free for the month posted, are being released, one per month, at Just Takes 2.
When I was ordering, this jelly fish fabric, which I fondled, carried around but ultimately didn’t buy in October when I visited Hancocks, jumped into my cart. It was on sale so I couldn’t resist.
I knew I wanted to try the liberated churn dash ala Sew Joy Creations for the scrap blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC14). January’s color is blue and my neutral is cheddar. Here’s how far I’ve gotten so far….I just need to sew the pieces together and I’ll have two mirror image blocks 🙂 I’m linking up with Judy’s Design Wall Monday so hop over and check it out.
I reclaimed the fabric from my Goodwill finds so I have a bit to add to my stash report.
- Fabric in: 2.5 yards (GW finds)
- Fabric out: 0 yards
- YTD Fabric in: 2.5 yards
- YTD Fabric out: 14 yards
- Net Fabric In/(Out): (11.5) yards
Happy Quilting, Cherie
I have a few more pieces from my last Goodwill treasure hunting. All washed up and ready to reclaim 🙂
The blue has a cartoon fish print and the pink plaid matches up with it 🙂 Cute, huh?
My January First Saturday blocks are finished already. I won’t even make to the First Sat in February to receive my free blocks….what is wrong with me? I’d usually wait to do them until the next set of blocks is due 😉
January’s main block.
And the alternate block. I put them on the design wall to see what they look like set together.
I’m not sure they add anything to each other. Maybe they aren’t destined to be in the same quilt. I’ll wait to see what the suggested setting are.
