Scrap Club Finish

I finally finished off the uneven log cabin throw from scrap club.  True to form, I was sewing down the binding right up to the last minute and this is the only picture I have of it 😉

The Wedding Quilt

One of our daughters got married last fall.  She chose fall colors for her wedding and her favorite color is purple.  A wedding quilt was in order but what to make, what to make.  How about a quilt with more than 2,600 pieces?  Yes, that sounds about right 😉  I picked Bonnie Hunter’s Scrap Crystals.

Scrap Crystals is in Bonnie’s book More Adventures with Leaders and Enders. But those colors just won’t do…….so I brought out my fall colored scraps and got to sewing.  Oh, I’m liking this.

I keep sewing those half square triangles and squares and soon I had blocks and then sashing!  My helper kept me on track (yeah, that’s what we’ll call it) and soon I was assembling the top.

The colors above aren’t true, well not for the center sashing strip.  It’s a nice eggplant purple like the picture below of the border.   I quilted it with variegated thread and I was quite pleased with the results.

I had another helper when it came to sewing down the binding……oh, and I found the perfect backing fabric.  I know this because EVERYBODY comments on the wonderful backing fabric.  Hey, all the work is on the front, pay attention, people!!

I was thrilled with the completed top and I think the bride and groom were as well.

Retirement Gift

I’ve worked with Liz for more than 10 years so a special gift for her retirement was a must.  I had six shirts selected for the Seven Shirts + Seven Steps quilt for more than 3 or 4 years (seriously marinating this one!)  It’s exactly the kind of quilt Liz would appreciate as she’s into recycling, reusing and upcycling.  In the years since I pulled the six shirts, I’ve thrifted quite a few more so I wasn’t surprised I was finally able to find the perfect seventh shirt!  I followed the pattern exactly except for the layout…I arranged the blocks so the light snowball blocks are in diagonal rows vs alternating like the pattern shows.

The Front

Excuse the quilt holders….there was some silliness going on as these pictures were taken at the end of the party!  That’s not Liz btw, it’s Emily-thanks Emily 🙂

The Back

I like the back maybe more than the front 😉  I finished this Dec 29, 2017 and I’ll admit to still be sewing down the binding during the party 😉  Yes, a slight miss on the deadline for this one!

I’m currently looking for another good combo of seven shirts as I’d like to make another one to keep 🙂

Thrifting

It was a good day at the Goodwill Clearance Center last week as far as cotton shirts go 🙂  I snagged two black striped shirts and some nice green plaids.

There were three colorful madras plaids in the teal/blue family, a wonderfully bright blue stripe and a big variety of pinks!  And a couple of solid shirts in bright green and pink, nice!

An orange & pink stripe, an orange stripe and a yellow stripe joined the others in my cart….woo hoo!!  And last, three nice blue ones rounded out my haul.  All washed up and ready for de-boning 😉
