Here’s the progress I made at the workshop. I know it’s not even half a completed block but I’m always slow in classes and I’m pleased with how well I did sewing the two curved seams. Now I’ll focus on cutting the New York Beauty arc template more precisely and I’ll be happy :). It was a great class and I will continue working on this quilt….I want to become comfortable with curves so I’m looking at this as my practice project.

Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville shares photos of old quilts and I love looking at them so I’m sharing this unusual block done with half square triangles (might be simple using large hst and cutting them similar to Delectable Mountains methods).

I’m taking a workshop with Toby Lischko and these are the fabrics for the project. The main fabric is one of the ones from Hancock’s of Paducah in my previous post. I pulled the two purple fabrics from my stash and purchased the black polka dot, aqua print and the green ginkgo leaf background print from Jackman’s Fabrics, a local quilt shop with three locations in the greater St Louis area. The background piece was a lucky find. It was in one of the charm packs I picked up at Hancock’s of Paducah and it seemed perfect for this project. Mind you, the charm packs were on clearance so that means they’ve been out for a while, so what are the chances of finding the fabric? Pretty good as I found it the first place I looked!!! 🙂

I finished my first block of the Folk Style Sampler (from Australian Patchwork & Quilting Vols. 12 & 13). The pattern calls for “cut & paste” (my term for fusing the pieces) appliqué but I prefer the look and durability of turned appliqué. I have a 45 min ride on the MetroLink to & from work and try always to have a hand work project to keep me busy. I’m guessing this project will take about two years to complete even though there are only 9 blocks total because the borders are appliquéd as well. It was started Aug 2007 so we shall see how long it takes 🙂

We took a day trip to Paducah that included a stop at Hancocks of Paducah.  I picked up some 5″ charm packs on sale and two pieces of fabric not on sale 😉  The fabric on the right is for a workshop with Toby Lischko in conjuntion with the Quintessential Quilt 2007 show held in October.  The fabric on the left is for my stash 🙂  It wasn’t as exciting as going to Hancocks when the AQS quilt show is going on but fun non the less.

Here’s a pic of twelve test blocks of my “Recycled Cabins” project. I am pleased with the balance of light/darks and the variation. These are 7″ finished blocks with 1″ logs. I’m not sure how big it will be when finished. I’ll see what layout I end up with and then see when it looks finished 🙂

Here’s a quilt I made from Judith Larzelere’s speed strip piecing workshop. It’s been finished for a while but thought it would be nice to have on my blog.

I like the label I did for this wallhanging but I need to improve my writing now that I look at it with fresh eyes!
