Design Wall Catch Up

Wow, it’s been long while since I’ve had a DWM post, or any post for that matter.  Be sure to hop over to Judy’s blog post here to see great projects posted from other quilters. Here’s my design wall from a couple of weeks ago…..nothing’s changed.

I do however, get to show a finished project this week, woo hoo!!!!  This is the First Saturday series from The Quilted Fox titled “Asian Surprise” and it includes both the main and alternate blocks.  I quilted it on Sophie and am pretty happy with the way it turned out.  Good thing, because it’s a wedding gift 😉

I tried paper piecing a few 4″ blocks.  They are pretty darned cute.

I sewed the binding on my AAQI Priority quilt….and have since finished it.  Now to get it registered.

We went on another treasure hunt at the Goodwill Clearance Center and I have my haul all washed, cut up and ready to use.

And while I was looking for shirts to re-purpose, check out the great treasures I snagged for Lily’s dress up box.  Tap shoes, beaded belt and sparkly necklace!!

And here’s a cute quilt picture, don’t you think?  Simontacchi is just too funny…….

Stash Report –

  • Fabric in:  7.5 yards (GW Shirts)
  • Fabric out: 0.5 yards (Asian Surprise binding)
  • YTD Fabric in: 106 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 31.5 yards

It’s Monday, Design Wall Time!

Here’s what’s on my design wall for this hot July Monday:

Hop over to Judy’s DWM post and check out what projects are hanging out on design walls in other places 🙂  I’m still adding flowers to my GFG a little bit at a time.  I finished my June First Saturday blocks, almost at the last minute!  We received our last “Fox Visits Provence” blocks and will start “The Fox Has Spots” First Saturday in August.

June Main Block

June Alternate Block

I completed the backing for the First Saturday Asian Surprise quilt……now on to the quilting.

In addition, I have been working on quilting two AAQI quilts….this is the Tile quilt block that is all quilted and ready for binding.

And this is a 4-patch mini that is the little sister to……..

….to this 4-patch mini quilt that I made for my SIL.  It’s 10″ by 14″, hand quilted and the colors are not true in this picture…..they are more like the mini above.

Speaking of AAQI, July 10th is the last day of the monthly Priority quilt auction and I’m afraid I’ve missed the highest bid quilt again!  Of course, you can make me look good by bidding for Hokey Pokey 😉

Over the 4th holiday we took a trip to Pahucah and had to visit Hancocks of Paducah 🙂  I only bought 1 1/2 yards and they were in the remnant bin.  Check out the connect the dots fabric from Moda….pretty cute, huh?

Stash Report –

  • Fabric in:  1.5 yards
  • Fabric out: 3.25 yards (Asian Surprise and mini quilt backings)
  • YTD Fabric in: 98.5 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 31 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): 67 yards – going down 😉

AAQI Auction Quilts

The AAQI Priority quilts for the July auction are up and you can see them here.  This will be a good month for AAQI as there’s a wide variety and several by well known quilters.  It’s hard to pick which one will raise the most money, but I’m going with Hokey Pokey (the second one down).

There’s one from Martha Wolfersberger:

A liberated quilt from Andrea Balosky, an American who lives in the Himalayas, in India.  She has a fascinating story which you can read about here.

Nancy Keuss Cable has two in the auction but this one just shines with tiny piecing ala Martha Wolfersberger:

And the Zentangle rage has made it to AAQI with Nancy Urschel’s quilt:

Heidi Burkhardt, from Ispringen, Germany, has this wonderful liberated quilt:

And another liberated quilt from Sujata Shah who blogs at The Root Connection:

And here’s a perfectly pieced quilt from Sandy Rice:

Design Mat Monday

It’s design wall Monday again but for me, it’s design cutting mat 🙂  Hop on over to Judy’s DWM blog post to find some other projects in the works.

These are the 4 patches I’ve been making as leader/enders while working on this:

Boy, is that a bad photo…..the one blow showing the borders I’m adding is truer to the actual colors.  The back will be a pale yellow Minky.

This is June and to keep up with my donate or purchase one AAQI quilt a month, I’ve looked over my sewing room to get inspired.  Here is one of the tile blocks I appliqued awhile back.  I think all it needs is binding and it’s ready register.  Believe it or not, I even have a name for this one 😉

Stash Report –

  • Fabric in:  0 yards
  • Fabric out: 0 yards
  • YTD Fabric in: 97 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 27.75 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): 69.25 yards

A Top Done (Almost)

Happy Design Wall Monday.  Here is the almost completed top made from the First Saturday BOM blocks.  I plan to take off the blue side borders and cut the orange border down so it will finish at 1/2″.  I thought the orange batik would provide a nice pop but I suspected it might be too bright and looked and looked in my stash for something better.  There just wasn’t anything else so hopefully with only 1/2″ showing the orange batik will do.  This photo is dark and you can’t see that the blue border fabric is a nice batik with circles of swirling blue dots.

Be sure to visit Judy’s DWM blog post to see loads of other projects.

In other news, the AAQI Priority quilt that sold for the most money was #9796 – Red Robin, selling for $155, woo hoo!   While I didn’t pick the winner this month, I did have it listed as being in contention for the highest 🙂

Marijke Op Den Camp, from the Netherlands, is the quilt maker and she has another equally as nice quilt, 8926 – Berries for Breakfast, on the AAQI “Quilts for Sale” page for only $70.
