Fun Things

I have a few fun things to show 🙂  First are the beautiful rosettes from the honorable mention ribbons my quilts won at the Quintessential Quilt 2013 show.

Honorable Mention RibbonThe one above was made by Mary Adams for Vicksburg and the one below was made by Deb Lewis for Tiled.  I’m pleased to have won these lovely ribbons 🙂

Hon Mention Ribbon

At scrap club several months back, Connie Barnett instructed us on how to make snap bags.  I’m so pleased with my fabric choices and the way the bag turned out, woot, woot!

Snap BagI’ve resumed an applique project, Folk Style Sampler from Australian Patchwork & Quilting that I started in August of 2007.  There are 9 blocks and I had 6 completed.  Here’s number 7

Block 7I’m about half way done with number 8 so this one might make it past the block stage in a couple of months.  Here’s my design wall with the first three months of the newest First Saturday, The Fox Sails the Greek Isles, as well as the last two blocks from The Fox has Dots series.  I’m linking up with Judy’s Design Wall Monday.

Guest Design Wall Monday

My DD NEVER liked crafts, not in all her growing up years but it’s time to have a guest DWM post because she has found a crafty friend and a reason to be crafty! So here are the pictures I’ve received of recent projects she has completed.  BTW, I’ve sent her a rotary cutter and cutting mat, which she says are AWESOME 😉

I sent some plastic coated fabric which I thought was cute but with no suggestion as to what to use it for……and DD used it to cover a table for Lily from Ikea.

After receiving the rotary cutter, she made this pillow.

I’ve sent various pieces of fabrics in the many boxes that get mailed to DD and DGD and she used some to make another pillow – with applique!

Miss Lily has to show how well it works 🙂

DD made this darling dress and the one below it using the bias tape maker I sent… was a big hit with the crafting moms 🙂

And Lily modeling her new dress……..

And here’s a felt flower DD made.

And here’s a picture of DD and DGD….so cute 🙂

Back to our regular DWM posts next week!!

It’s Monday, Design Wall Time!

Here’s what’s on my design wall for this hot July Monday:

Hop over to Judy’s DWM post and check out what projects are hanging out on design walls in other places 🙂  I’m still adding flowers to my GFG a little bit at a time.  I finished my June First Saturday blocks, almost at the last minute!  We received our last “Fox Visits Provence” blocks and will start “The Fox Has Spots” First Saturday in August.

June Main Block

June Alternate Block

I completed the backing for the First Saturday Asian Surprise quilt……now on to the quilting.

In addition, I have been working on quilting two AAQI quilts….this is the Tile quilt block that is all quilted and ready for binding.

And this is a 4-patch mini that is the little sister to……..

….to this 4-patch mini quilt that I made for my SIL.  It’s 10″ by 14″, hand quilted and the colors are not true in this picture…..they are more like the mini above.

Speaking of AAQI, July 10th is the last day of the monthly Priority quilt auction and I’m afraid I’ve missed the highest bid quilt again!  Of course, you can make me look good by bidding for Hokey Pokey 😉

Over the 4th holiday we took a trip to Pahucah and had to visit Hancocks of Paducah 🙂  I only bought 1 1/2 yards and they were in the remnant bin.  Check out the connect the dots fabric from Moda….pretty cute, huh?

Stash Report –

  • Fabric in:  1.5 yards
  • Fabric out: 3.25 yards (Asian Surprise and mini quilt backings)
  • YTD Fabric in: 98.5 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 31 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): 67 yards – going down 😉

Design Mat Monday

It’s design wall Monday again but for me, it’s design cutting mat 🙂  Hop on over to Judy’s DWM blog post to find some other projects in the works.

These are the 4 patches I’ve been making as leader/enders while working on this:

Boy, is that a bad photo…..the one blow showing the borders I’m adding is truer to the actual colors.  The back will be a pale yellow Minky.

This is June and to keep up with my donate or purchase one AAQI quilt a month, I’ve looked over my sewing room to get inspired.  Here is one of the tile blocks I appliqued awhile back.  I think all it needs is binding and it’s ready register.  Believe it or not, I even have a name for this one 😉

Stash Report –

  • Fabric in:  0 yards
  • Fabric out: 0 yards
  • YTD Fabric in: 97 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 27.75 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): 69.25 yards

It’s a Flimsy!

I finished the Vicksburg top and since it won’t fit on my design wall, here it is on my cutting table.  Woo Hoo!!  And it’s Design Wall Monday so click over to Judy’s post to see what other quilters are up to 🙂

I still think I’ll applique some ovals where the swags meet but they look better than I had anticipated they would.  I started this quilt in Sept 2009.  It was a free BOM from Dawn Hesse of Linen Closet Quilts.  Dawn posted the final directions in July 2010.  Good to finally finish the Vicksburg top 🙂  It measures ~69″ x 69″ and lays flat 😉  It used 6 yds of fabric but in reality it used more like 7 because I cut the setting triangles incorrectly the first time.

I’ve continued cutting up shirts……

and sewing red string blocks.

Stash Report:

  • Fabric in:  8 yards
  • Fabric out: 7 yards
  • YTD Fabric in: 14 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 7 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): 7 yards
