DWM Post Finally

I went to Paducah to see the AQS quilt show and had a wonderful time 🙂  I saw Quilt Man & Bobbin, enjoyed great meals with friends and indulged in way too much retail therapy…….but Gail Garber, in her lecture says we need lots and lots of colors to chose from so stash enhancement is needed 🙂

Here’s what’s on my design wall for this last Monday in April.  Check out other design walls on Judy’s DWM post here

I made another Barbara Brackman Civil War BOW, number 26 Apple Tree.  Only 6 or 7 blocks more to go!

And got my April First Saturday block finished.

Now for the one and only picture I’ll show of how very, very bad I was in Paducah.

In my very weak defense, the red fabric on the bottom left pile is for a quilt backing and the gray/blue/yellow/white prints are for a baby quilt needed by July.  The rest, I have no defense…..

Stash Report –

  • Fabric in:  60 yards (Paducah, ‘nough said)
  • Fabric out: 0 yards
  • YTD Fabric in: 93.5 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 20.5 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): 73 yards (must remember the goal is no more than 25 net in 🙁 )

DWM Time

Here it is Design Wall Monday again!  I made a couple more of the civil war blocks…..

Barbara Brackman made this one for the series and she calls it the Union Shield.

This one is Yankee Puzzle and I’ve made two of them.  We have to repeat three blocks to have a total of 56.  As I’m writing this, it occurs to me that using 4 shields in the corners might be a nice look…..maybe I’ll make three extra of them!

A quilting friend, Dorris, passed a couple of years ago and her wishes were for the guild to have her stash.  In the share I received, were a couple of orphan squares and quite a few batik scarps.  I’m played with them this weekend and think I’ll finish these up for an AAQI Priority quilt.  At least the thumbnail picture will be seen since it’s so bright 🙂

Stash Report – Same as last week:

  • Fabric in:  0 yards
  • Fabric out: 0 yards
  • YTD Fabric in: 22 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 12 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): 10 yards

Catching Up

It’s Design Wall Monday and here’s what’s on my wall.

I finished my First Saturday blocks….just in time for Saturday 😉

I sewed up another block, Port & Starboard, from Barbara Brackman’s Civil War BOW.

And tested out cutting a few red string blocks into triangles 🙂

I cleaned off my ironing board in order to iron the fabric for the Vicksburg backing.  That led to cutting scraps into strips and squares to feed the scrap savers system, cutting one square from each of the polka dot fabrics in my stash for a fellow quilter, finishing cutting up the last of the shirts donated from the hubby’s closet, and figuring out what’s up with the TTNP borders.  Not that I’ve worked out how to handle it, but I’ve figured out what’s what.

Stash Report:

  • Fabric in:  4 yards (shirts from my husband’s closet and a couple of Fox Tails)
  • Fabric out: 5 yards (backing for Vicksburg quilt)
  • YTD Fabric in: 22 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 12 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): 10 yards

It’s a Red, White & Blue Monday

It’s Design Wall Monday and the theme of this post, by pure coincidence, is Red, White & Blue.  I cut the fabrics for my First Saturday blocks and a couple Civil War blocks.  For this civil war block, I used one of the fabrics I received from Vicki…..as soon as I saw the blue fabric with stars, I knew it was perfect for the flag block!

My design wall has more red string blocks.  All of the blocks are sewn but I didn’t trim the rest of them because Bonnie pointed out on her blog that it was double work to trim them square them up, cut them in half and then trim the triangles again, duh 🙂  I’ll work on getting the triangles cut later.

On Saturday we went to the parade in downtown St Louis to honor the Iraq veterans home.

Stash Report:

  • Fabric in:  2.5 yards (a couple of shirts from my husband’s closet cut up and in the stash)
  • Fabric out: 0 yards
  • YTD Fabric in: 18 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 7 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): 11 yards

December Design Wall Time

I can’t believe it’s the 5th of December already.  So many things to do and so little time **sigh**.  I haven’t had much time to sew but I managed to get block 48, West Virginia, from the Civil War BOM finished.

I took the Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll blocks off my design wall in order to start arranging them on my big table for when I sew the top together, woo hoo!  Since I’m almost done with the appliqued swags, I threw up a few of the Vicksburg blocks to get a feel for the quilt.  What do you think?  I think I need a bigger design wall!!  And my math on the last post must have been the “new” math because there is a total of 12 swags, not 9.  I have completed 7 and now have 5 left.

Stash Report – No change from last week 🙂

  • Fabric in:  0 yards
  • Fabric out: 0 yards
  • YTD Fabric in: 168 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 86.75 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): 81.25 yards accumulated
