Design Wall and Other Stuff

Monday, May 21st, 2012

Happy Monday :)   Judy’s Design Wall Monday post always provides loads of inspiration so be sure to check it out.  Here’s my wall, with two new civil war BOTW blocks and the May First Saturday block ready to go.

Barbara Brackman’s civil war block-of-the-week (BOTW) blocks #47 Dixie Tea & #52 Christmas Star.

May’s First Saturday block.

Check out the fun stuff I received for my birthday last week.  A flower margarita bouquet, an AAQI Priority quilt and a Lava Lamp.  Remember the Lava Lamp?  Too fun!!

Lastly, check out the cool thing we did this weekend.  Curling lessons!  FUN!!!

May Monday

Monday, May 14th, 2012

We are having some wonderful weather here in St Louis.  Absolutely gorgeous.  This week, I have a few new blocks on my design wall, including including blocks for a new leader/ender project ;)   Be sure to check out Judy’s DWM post here.

I finished up the alternate First Saturday block.

I made “Grapes of Wrath“, block number 50 of Barbara Brackman’s civil war BOW from 2011.  Since I’ve decided to use the medallion setting and only need the original 53 blocks, I only have 5 more blocks to finish, yea!!!

Lastly, I’ve been sewing these 9 patches as my leader/enders with an eye to making some Hot Crossed 9-Patches inspired by the Block Lotto April 2012 block.  I’m using reclaimed shirt fabric but haven’t decided what fabric to use for the “cross” part.  I’ll be sewing the frame pieces leader/ender as well :)

May DWM

Happy Monday!  Here’s what’s on my design wall

All the free pieced letters are mug mats I made as office warming presents for the folks that work for me……we had to move from offices with windows to an interior office space with no windows.  You can imagine the complaints….so I thought these might help.  New to the wall is the alternate April First Saturday block.

And check out my reject letter.  Cute, huh?  Why is it a reject?  Because all the other letters have only one fabric for their backgrounds and I wasn’t sure if there was only one scrappy one, if someone feel they got the better/worse end of the stick ;)

Stash Report –

  • Fabric in:  0 yards
  • Fabric out: 1 yards (8 mug mats)
  • YTD Fabric in: 93.5 yards

DWM Post Finally

Monday, April 30th, 2012

I went to Paducah to see the AQS quilt show and had a wonderful time :)   I saw Quilt Man & Bobbin, enjoyed great meals with friends and indulged in way too much retail therapy…….but Gail Garber, in her lecture says we need lots and lots of colors to chose from so stash enhancement is needed :)

Here’s what’s on my design wall for this last Monday in April.  Check out other design walls on Judy’s DWM post here

I made another Barbara Brackman Civil War BOW, number 26 Apple Tree.  Only 6 or 7 blocks more to go!

And got my April First Saturday block finished.

Now for the one and only picture I’ll show of how very, very bad I was in Paducah.

In my very weak defense, the red fabric on the bottom left pile is for a quilt backing and the gray/blue/yellow/white prints are for a baby quilt needed by July.  The rest, I have no defense…..

Stash Report –

  • Fabric in:  60 yards (Paducah, ‘nough said)

MIA Monday

Monday, April 16th, 2012

I’ve been missing in action and thank you to those of you who came looking for me :)

First up, one of my AAQI Priority quilts, Squared, has had it’s photo loaded in the Quilt Waiting for Assignment page, woo hoo!

It’s Design Wall Monday so click over to Judy’s DWM post for links to other DWM posts.  I have a completed top for my design wall!  It’s a log cabin project from scrap club.   It is being inspected by Capser and Simontacchi because that’s their job, you know!

While I was MIA I participated in the St Louis Shop Hop with Darlene, Marilyn and Jeanne.  We had such a fun time and they’re still smiling at stop #11!

I was very good on the first shop hop day, but the second day……..well, here’s what I snagged.

The cute ice cream and laminated owl prints aren’t for me…they are going to Italy for my DD to play with.  I can’t resist scraps and grab bags with scraps, well I’m in heaven.  Cross Patches, our shop hop stop #12, had grab bags of scraps in a basket in the back of the store.  The stack of scraps on the right in the top photo is the pile of scraps I got…..they are a wonderful mix of fabrics and I love them!  I picked up a few other pieces of fabric…….looks like I’m gravitating towards gold/pumpkin colors, doesn’t it?

I have been working on my hexie project on the train as I haven’t taken the time to prep my next applique block.  My flower garden is growing :)

Just Another Manic Monday….

Monday, March 19th, 2012

I always hear the Manic Monday Bangles song when I do my Design Wall Monday posting :)   Be sure to click over to Judy’s DWM post.  On my wall are the last three month’s First Saturday blocks and the strip quilt I’m making with my mom.  It took her a long time to add the second row and I’m taking just as long to add a third row…but I’ve almost settled on doing some Roman Stripe blocks :)

I’ve been steadily working on adding the rounds to the scrap club Double Time log cabin.  I’ve got the 13th “log” pinned to all my blocks, so only two more to go…..

The red string blocks have all been cut into triangles :)   Let’s see, what am I doing with them?…..because you know I can’t start another project ;)

I like the First Saturday block for March (sorry about the blurry picture….not sure if it’s the dots or the photographer).

I’ve started work on my March Color Palette challenge.  Turns out it will be a miniature with 1/4″ squares! Good thing it’s a Priority quilt for AAQI!!!!  Not sure I could handle anything larger.

Stash Report – still no changes……even though I went to a quilt show with vendors this weekend!

  • Fabric out: 0 yards

Sunny Monday

Monday, March 12th, 2012

It is unseasonably warm in St Louis this week, with high temperatures expected near 80 degrees so I’m sure all my daffodils will be in bloom this week.  It will be light out when I get home tonight so I’ll take a couple of pictures and maybe you’ll know why my blog refers to jonquils ;)

I had a busy weekend but nothing new on my design wall :(   I recovered my mini ironing board and it looks fabulous!

Here’s a picture from before but it doesn’t show how bad it had gotten:

And after :)

Nice, really nice.  I got some sewing time in and used it to work on the First Saturday half square triangles.

Last, I’ve continued cutting triangles from the red string blocks…….I’m almost done.  Guess I’ll have to figure out what I’m doing with them now ;) Hmmm……

There is no change for the stash report.  I did pay for some fabric but I’ve not received it yet, so there is no change.

Happy Design Wall Monday

Happy Monday to…..well, to whom ever finds my posts interesting enough to visit :)   My design wall has a few new things this week.

Including February’s First Saturday block……..click over to Judy’s DWM post here. to see other design wall goodness.

I am continuing to sew on the February Scrap Club project, having my 8th round pinned and ready to sew.  So with 15 total rounds, I’m half way there :)

Most exciting of all……I have three Priority quilts registered and ready to ship to AAQI.  Woo Hoo!!

“Squared” registration #9649

“Amish String Theory” registration #9650

“Love Lifted Me” registration #9651

They look so nice sitting in a stack ready to go raise funds for research

Missing the Wall

Monday, February 27th, 2012

Howdy!  I missed DWM last week because I was out of town and this week it’s Design Ironing Board Monday ;)   The scrap club Tea hosts met this weekend and I spent most of my sewing time preparing logs for our current project.

I was able to pull from my 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 inch strips but I needed even more so I’ve been cutting into some fat quarters and half yard stash.  I’ve also tackled the fabric leftover from past projects that have been sitting in the “to be cut” pile.  Here’s the proof….check out the trash mountain I’ve got going!

Stash Report – Same as last week, however, I will have some to add next week as I sort through I bag I brought home from my out-of-town visit to see what I will keep and what I share with others :)

  • Fabric in:  0 yards
  • Fabric out: 0 yards
  • YTD Fabric in: 22 yards

DWM Time

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Here it is Design Wall Monday again!  I made a couple more of the civil war blocks…..

Barbara Brackman made this one for the series and she calls it the Union Shield.

This one is Yankee Puzzle and I’ve made two of them.  We have to repeat three blocks to have a total of 56.  As I’m writing this, it occurs to me that using 4 shields in the corners might be a nice look…..maybe I’ll make three extra of them!

A quilting friend, Dorris, passed a couple of years ago and her wishes were for the guild to have her stash.  In the share I received, were a couple of orphan squares and quite a few batik scarps.  I’m played with them this weekend and think I’ll finish these up for an AAQI Priority quilt.  At least the thumbnail picture will be seen since it’s so bright :)

Stash Report – Same as last week:

  • Fabric in:  0 yards
  • Fabric out: 0 yards
  • YTD Fabric in: 22 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 12 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): 10 yards
