Last March DWM

March is going out like a lamb with highs in the 70’s 🙂  My design wall is pretty much the same as last week:

DWM 3-30-15There are two tiny additions:

Marbling DemoThese are samples I made from the marbling demo at our guild meeting.  The one on the right was the first one…FAIL….the one on the left was much improved 🙂 Hat’s off to Liz Mitchell for the wonderful demo.  I can see experimenting with this technique would be FUN, but man, is carrageenan expensive!

The RSC challenge color for April is purple.  I picked out some purple thrifted shirt sleeves and put my Studio cutter to work.  Thirty two half square triangles of each of 4 shirts took about 15 minutes and only because I had to iron them first 😉

RSC TrianglesI’m linking up with Judy’s DWM post.

First Spring Monday

Spring has sprung in our parts…..I know because my daffodils are blooming 🙂

DaffodilI finished my RSC blocks for March, the color is yellow, and put them all on my design wall.  I’m having fun with these and using the Studio cutter is awesome since you don’t end up with any dog ears.  I’m linking up with Judy’s DWM post here.

DWM 3-23-15I visited my favorite treasure hunting place and hit the jackpot with 5 identical green 100% cotton shirts as well as a couple of others 🙂  At $0.79/lb, it’s cheap fabric!

Green ShirtsI pieced the backing for STYX out of the lime green polka dot fabric so I have some stash out and since the aforementioned shirts haven’t yet been deboned and added to the stash……my stash report is looking good 😉

Scraps, Stash & Fun

I have a couple of new blocks on my design wall and am linking up with Judy’s DWM post.

DWM 3-16-15Including this fun and funky churn dash/hole in the barn door/monkey wrench block:

Fun and FunkyAnd this sample flag block from Alycia Quilts for QOV:

Alycia Quilts QOV Flag BlockI have a flimsy too 🙂  This is STYX, a quilt top made from RSC14  blocks.  I’ve been intending this for a baby quilt for a co-worker but SOME people have insisted that I should NOT give this one away…..it’s special, they say 🙂

RSC STIX Quilt TopIt must be special because I bought two black & white and one green fabric to finish it.  Couldn’t be made with fabric I already have now, could it?  No, it just wasn’t haven’t that, it needed new fabric!  So that fabric along with this thrifted stash enhancement means….fabric in.  But a flimsy finish means fabric out 🙂

Spring is Around the Corner

The sun is shining, the snow is almost gone and the robins and red winged blackbirds are back, woo hoo!  The only thing on my design wall is my First Sat block which I finished Friday night, just in the nick of time 😉  There’s lot’s to see on Judy’s design wall Monday link up so check it out here

DWM 3-9-15Feb FS MainA few friends & I will be heading out for a few days for what has become an annual quilt retreat.  I’ve packed up my RSC blocks hoping to figure out sashing and borders and for my leader/enders, I’m taking along my RSC15 half square triangles.  The color for March is yellow.  What do you think of these?

RSC YellowThere was no change in the stash report.

Back to Work Monday

It’s been a fun week with a wonderful 4 day weekend ending with 6 plus inches of SNOW 🙂  They were only forecasting 1-3″ so what a wonderful surprise to wake up to a thick blanket of snow!!!!

We had our guild’s annual fabric swap and I snagged a couple of large pieces.  Carolyn brought two huge bags of scraps and boy, oh boy, did we have a blast digging through them.  I spent Thursday petting, ironing, trimming and folding the scraps into my stash….it was heaven 🙂

Scrap Swap Loot

I also spent some time quilting on Sophie, loading my red string quilt which is one of my finish goals as part of the 2015 Finish-Along.

Red String QuiltingI spent some more time cleaning up my sewing room and unearthed some liberate churn dash blocks that never got finished from the 2014 RSC.  So I’m getting them done and on the design wall.

DWM 3-2-15I’m linking up with Judy’s DWM post.,,,..go check it out.
