Wonderful August Monday

Compared to the extreme heat we’ve been having in the midwest, today’s temperatures in  mid 80′s felt terrific.  A great day for design wall Monday. I’ve got a couple of test blocks from the new First Saturday on my wall this week.  Everything else is the same…….

This first Sat round is called “The Fox Has Dots” and all the fabrics will have, wait for it…..DOTS!  This is the main block which I felt was complicated enough to warrant a test block.  Good thing too, because it’s 12 1/4″ finished and it’s supposed to 12 1/2″.  Scant 1/4″ seams are in order for this block!

I made a test alternate block too because the pattern calls for making this with 1/2 sq triangles but I wanted to make flying geese units.  You only get so much fabric and I wanted to make sure I could get the pieces I needed out of the fabric given.

I’m going to a baby shower soon and want to make a couple of Baprons as can be seen here.  So I needed to get a bias tape maker because I wasn’t going to make bias by hand again!  That meant a trip to JoAnn’s and guess what jumped into my arms?  Remants of white and chartreuse Kona cotton…..half price!!

So that means fabric in….but look at this:

I finished the baby quilt top and it’s ready to get loaded on Sophie :)   That means fabric out!

Stash Report –

  • Fabric in:  2 yards (Kona piecs)
  • Fabric out: 11.5 yards (Baby quilt front & back, fabric sent to DD & napkins)
  • YTD Fabric in: 108 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 43 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out):65 yards  That’s a little better but more than half my goal **sigh**

Design Wall Catch Up

Wow, it’s been long while since I’ve had a DWM post, or any post for that matter.  Be sure to hop over to Judy’s blog post here to see great projects posted from other quilters. Here’s my design wall from a couple of weeks ago…..nothing’s changed.

I do however, get to show a finished project this week, woo hoo!!!!  This is the First Saturday series from The Quilted Fox titled “Asian Surprise” and it includes both the main and alternate blocks.  I quilted it on Sophie and am pretty happy with the way it turned out.  Good thing, because it’s a wedding gift ;)

I tried paper piecing a few 4″ blocks.  They are pretty darned cute.

I sewed the binding on my AAQI Priority quilt….and have since finished it.  Now to get it registered.

We went on another treasure hunt at the Goodwill Clearance Center and I have my haul all washed, cut up and ready to use.

And while I was looking for shirts to re-purpose, check out the great treasures I snagged for Lily’s dress up box.  Tap shoes, beaded belt and sparkly necklace!!

And here’s a cute quilt picture, don’t you think?  Simontacchi is just too funny…….

It’s Monday, Design Wall Time!

Here’s what’s on my design wall for this hot July Monday:

Hop over to Judy’s DWM post and check out what projects are hanging out on design walls in other places :)  I’m still adding flowers to my GFG a little bit at a time.  I finished my June First Saturday blocks, almost at the last minute!  We received our last “Fox Visits Provence” blocks and will start “The Fox Has Spots” First Saturday in August.

June Main Block

June Alternate Block

I completed the backing for the First Saturday Asian Surprise quilt……now on to the quilting.

In addition, I have been working on quilting two AAQI quilts….this is the Tile quilt block that is all quilted and ready for binding.

And this is a 4-patch mini that is the little sister to……..

….to this 4-patch mini quilt that I made for my SIL.  It’s 10″ by 14″, hand quilted and the colors are not true in this picture…..they are more like the mini above.

Speaking of AAQI, July 10th is the last day of the monthly Priority quilt auction and I’m afraid I’ve missed the highest bid quilt again!  Of course, you can make me look good by bidding for Hokey Pokey ;)

Over the 4th holiday we took a trip to Pahucah and had to visit Hancocks of Paducah :)   I only bought 1 1/2 yards and they were in the remnant bin.  Check out the connect the dots fabric from Moda….pretty cute, huh?

New Project

First, here’s a corner shot of the Asian Surprise quilt top that shows the pattern in the final border really well.

Second, here’s the fabric I’ve pulled for the baby quilt I need to get done asap.  I’m using the variable star block with the animal print fussy cut for the centers and set with striped fabric sashing with cornerstones.

Cutting to commence tonight! :)

DWM for June 18

Happy Design Wall Monday.  As always, Judy’s DWM post has links for loads of DWM postings with all kinds of cool projects going on around the blogosphere.  My design wall is the same.

I did finish the borders on the Asian Surprise quilt so this week’s goal is to get the backing pieced together and hopefully get it loaded on Sophie.

And since I finished the top…..I have a change in my stash report!!!  It’s a small change because only the borders count but the backing will make a bigger dent soon :)
