Scraps, Stash & Fun

I have a couple of new blocks on my design wall and am linking up with Judy’s DWM post.

DWM 3-16-15Including this fun and funky churn dash/hole in the barn door/monkey wrench block:

Fun and FunkyAnd this sample flag block from Alycia Quilts for QOV:

Alycia Quilts QOV Flag BlockI have a flimsy too 🙂  This is STYX, a quilt top made from RSC14  blocks.  I’ve been intending this for a baby quilt for a co-worker but SOME people have insisted that I should NOT give this one away…’s special, they say 🙂

RSC STIX Quilt TopIt must be special because I bought two black & white and one green fabric to finish it.  Couldn’t be made with fabric I already have now, could it?  No, it just wasn’t haven’t that, it needed new fabric!  So that fabric along with this thrifted stash enhancement means….fabric in.  But a flimsy finish means fabric out 🙂

Thirfted Stash

Stash Report:

  • Fabric in: 8.5 yards
  • Fabric out:  2.5 yards
  • YTD Fabric in:  24.5 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 24 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): 0.5 yards

RSC Catch Up

I finished up the rest of the liberated churn dash RSC14 blocks.  They aren’t trimmed but they are together 😉  So the DD likes the blocks with the strings as the background.

Liberated Churn DashIt also makes these blocks, the negative of the ones above, and they may or may not be heading to someone who said they would take them 😉  I like them both.

Liberated Churn Dash in NegativeI got the adapter so I can use Go dies in my Studio Cutter and got the Go the peaky/spike die.  I cut some scraps to try it out.  It worked perfectly and, boy, the pieces went together so nicely.

Peaky Spike Go DieI’m thinking they could be used for a pieced border…..hmmmmmm, I’ll have to think on that.

Back to Work Monday

It’s been a fun week with a wonderful 4 day weekend ending with 6 plus inches of SNOW 🙂  They were only forecasting 1-3″ so what a wonderful surprise to wake up to a thick blanket of snow!!!!

We had our guild’s annual fabric swap and I snagged a couple of large pieces.  Carolyn brought two huge bags of scraps and boy, oh boy, did we have a blast digging through them.  I spent Thursday petting, ironing, trimming and folding the scraps into my stash….it was heaven 🙂

Scrap Swap Loot

I also spent some time quilting on Sophie, loading my red string quilt which is one of my finish goals as part of the 2015 Finish-Along.

Red String QuiltingI spent some more time cleaning up my sewing room and unearthed some liberate churn dash blocks that never got finished from the 2014 RSC.  So I’m getting them done and on the design wall.

DWM 3-2-15I’m linking up with Judy’s DWM post.,,,..go check it out.

Stash Report:

  • Fabric in: ~4 yards (guild fabric swap)

Deep Freeze Monday

Boy, oh boy, it’s cold outside!!  Good days for staying in the warm house and sewing, right?  When I was cutting the bias binding strips for the raffle quilt, I cut the remaining fabric to have a stash of binding ready to go for later 🙂  I got it sewed and ironed…….

400 Binding…..and then I starting checking out sashing possibilities for these RSC blocks on my design wall. Check out Judy’s DWM post here for all the wonderful things hanging out on design walls everywhere 🙂

DWM 2-13-15RSC SashingsI’m leaning towards the one second from the left but I haven’t finished frisking my stash yet so I might yet find something else.

Our guilds annual fabric swap meeting is tomorrow night so while I was digging in my stash, I culled out some fabrics that have hung out at my house for too long.  I’m counting it as stash out.  If I bring home any, I’ll count it in next week 😉

Stash Report:

  • Fabric in: 2 yards (thrifted shirts)
  • Fabric out:  8.5 yards (more solids sent to DD)
  • YTD Fabric in:  12 yards
  • YTD Fabric out: 21.5 yards
  • Net Fabric In/(Out): (9.5) yards
