It’s Monday and time for Design Wall Monday   I finished some of those red string blocks I’ve been sewing for who knows what

Check out Judy’s DWM post here.  I’ve also gotten out the Topsy Turvy Nine Patch from forever ago (started at the Oct 3, 2009 workshop).  All it needs are the borders added….and they are pieced already!  I’m not sure they are pieced correctly because they don’t seem to fit any of the sides.  I need to re-read the directions and see what’s up.  It would be nice to finish this one up finally!

I’ve sewn all the units from steps 1 & 2 of Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll (RRCB) and started working on the borders for Topsy Turvy Nine Patch (finally)!!

I laid out my Technicolor Yawn blocks to decide if I want to add any kind of a border to it.  I’m leaning towards a 2″ red inner border followed by two rows of scrappy squares.

I’m back from the quilt retreat in Shipshewana, IN and it was wonderful.  The accommodations were terrific, I met some fun & fabulous quilters, ruined my stash report shopped at some nice fabric shops, ate some delicious meals and had the opportunity to get to know my traveling companions, Karen & Judy, a lot better.  Couldn’t have asked for better fellow travelers!!  Alas, I was having such a good time, my camera never saw the light of day so no pictures

I’m layering on my design wall again so you can see a bit of the Crumb quilt peaking out…..but on top is the Topsy Turvy Nine Patch I finished putting together at the retreat.   I just have to say, I really DON’T like paper piecing and only the half rectangle units were paper pieced!!

This is a Judy Laquidara pattern that I started at a workshop with her last Oct!  I have the pieces cut and the strips sewn for the borders so it won’t take me long to finally finish this one.  You can check out the pattern and projects other quilters are working on at Judy’s Design Wall Monday post here.

I’ve joined Ginger Monkey’s scrap quilt-a-long and I’ve got three A blocks done so far……only 15 more to go!  I have quite a few block A parts sewn up and haven’t run out of 2 1/2″ squares yet but I’ll need more for the B blocks I’m sure!

I quilted a bit this weekend and Sophie continues to be her wonderful self.  My free motion quilting needs way more practice though!!

I made some binding on the bias and thought what the heck, I’ll just cut up the whole piece of fabric to avoid having big triangle pieces left over.   Big left over big triangles pieces aren’t easy to work with later and they don’t fold well either!  Think I made at least 3 times more than I needed, lol……here are the left overs!!

I’ve talked about taking the Topsy Turvy Nine Patch workshop with Judy Laquidara of Patchwork Times this past Oct and no doubt you’re tired of seeing the six blocks I completed at the workshop on my design wall.  Well, here’s some new pictures to look at   Our president, Carolyn, invited us to her house for a progress party.  Darlene made Iowa Chowder, yummmy!  For the folks who allowed me to post them, here are the in-progress photos.

The only difference from the last time I posted is the lettering for the Cards vs Sox quilt came down.  I wasn’t able to complete the wedding quilt in time for the wedding but I was oh, so close.

I will get it quilted and handed off to the bride and groom soon, very, very soon.  Yep, that’s my story.

On Thursday we hung our Quintessential Quilt 2009 show.  Here are the racks of quilts waiting to be grouped and hung.

Our small quilt show is a juried & judged show that hangs in the University City Puplic Library’s gallery and atrium for the month of October.  We were scheduled to hang the show on Friday but we decided it would be great to hang it a day early and participate in the Loop in Motion Art Walk on Friday evening.  There are 67 entries and three judges quilts for a total of 70 quilts hunging!  Fun times, fun times   Actually there is a great group of women in our small quild and it is a pleasure to work with them.
