Vicksburg 10

Friday, January 14th, 2011

I completed the last of the Vicksburg BOM blocks.  I still have the border swags to applique but they should be easy and quick to do.

I didn’t show the previous block so here it is:

Here are all the applique blocks:

Since this project is on my 2011 UFO Challenge list as number 4a, it should get to the flimsy stage this year ;)

Happy Quilting,  Cherie

Design Wall Monday 12-13

Monday, December 13th, 2010

The holidays put a crimp in my sewing time.  Here’s my design wall.  Same as last week.

Judy’s Design Wall Monday post has links to other design walls that may or may not be as boring as mine ;)

I’m still working on the RRCB string blocks so I’m now officially behind :(

DWM & Send Snow

Monday, December 6th, 2010

It’s the first Design Wall Monday in December and I’ve got new blocks on the wall ;)   I made 11 RRCB string blocks (only 49 more to go), finished the 8th Vicksburg applique block and completed step 5 of the stay-at-home-robin.

Be sure to stop by Judy’s DWM post for links to other DWM blog postings :)   Oh and one more thing…..while removing the phone book pages I used as foundations for the string pieced blocks,  I realized I was making bedding for my worm bin!!  How’s that for recycling?   Use the pages for quilting and then for worm bedding which gets made into worm castings to be used in the garden :)   You can see the phone book bits in with my regular shredded newspaper.

While trying to get better pictures for my blog I took some pictures of the finches out my window.

This second picture captured a finch just as it was landing.   These little guys were getting the seeds that fall from our sweet gum tree and that white stuff?  That is all the snow we’ve gotten.  That’s all.  Family in Pittsburgh has snow, family in Rockford has snow….I want SNOW!!!  Enough snow to make one of these:

Another Vicksburg Block

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Today, on my way to work on the MetroLink, I finished the 8th block of the Dawn’s Vicksburg BOM.   Only two more blocks to go!  It’s been so long since I started this one, I can’t even remember if I have the next block prepared or not…..guess I know what I’ll be doing tonight :)

Thrifting :)

Saturday, September 4th, 2010

I stopped at a thrift store today because they are having a Labor Day sale and I had some time.  Glad I did because look what I snagged :)

The great gold is an XXL shirt, the red stripe is a great shirting (see below) and the pink/green print is a cotton skirt so I’ll get some nice large pieces.  The stripe shirt on the right isn’t for my fabric stash…it’s a Liz non-iron shirt for me…for $1.50, nice!

And last, here’s a picture of the pieced blocks for the Vicksburg FREE BOM to complete the pictures from my last post ;)

Have a great Labor Day weekend.

Another BOM? Crazy Right?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Dawn at Linen Closet Quilts is offering another free BOM, Folk Art Tribute.   This BOM will have different sized blocks…one will be 12″ x 48″!!  Since I can’t resist folk art, I might just have to join in on this block of the month.  Not sure how I can justify a new one since I haven’t finished the Vicksburg BOM yet.  But look I’ve competed 7 (okay, I CAN count & there are only 6 pictures below……only 6 months were applique blocks….one of the months was 4 pieced blocks) of them…..only 3 more to go!

Design Wall Time :)

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

It’s just another manic Monday, oh woe…….The Bangles Manic Monday is running through my head.  Which makes it seem like I’m in a melancholy mood and you might think I have nothing new for Design Wall Monday.  Not so!

I finished the blocks for the Steelers quilt (the Penguins and Pirates don’t have any licensed fabric on the market right now so it’s just a Steelers quilt) and I’m happy with the way they’ve turned out.   After I took the picture I realized two of the blocks are upside down.   I’ll make sure to have them all right side up when I add the sashing ;)

The flowers are still growing although I think I’ll cut the green fabric so I can start adding the “path” to them.

The navy version of the Pinwheel Party quilt is all together except for the final border.  I’m pretty happy with the way it’s turned out although you can’t tell from this horrible picture.  I’ll have to enlist a helper to get a better photo.

Last, Dawn at Linen Closet Quilts has given the final directions for her FREE Vicksburg BOM.  I can’t wait to get caught up on this one……those swags will be fun to stitch!

PS.  Lori, no, there’s no stash report.  I’m not telling how much of the flower fabric I bought….at least until I can count some out going stash!! VBG

Vicksburg 7

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

I finished block 7 of the Vicksburg FREE BOM on the MetroLink this morning.

I realized, horror of horrors, I would finish the last leave well before arriving at work leaving me with no hand work!!  I dashed downstairs, quick cut a square of background fabric and stuffed a handful of scraps in a bag.  Whew!  Saved by the tile quilt.   There are several folks working on modern tile quilts as can been seen here.   I had a heart go all wonky on the Vicksburg block above so I’m using it as the first piece of my tile block.  Think I’ll leave this project in my work bag permanently to keep me out of trouble just in case ;)

Design Wall

Monday, May 24th, 2010

I selected fabrics for block 7 of the Vicksburg FREE BOM this weekend.  I wasn’t sure which background fabric to use for it so I put the blocks on my design wall.  I was going to throw in a third background fabric but now think I’ll just sew two of the remaining 4 blocks on the lighter background and the 2 on the darker background.  I’ll move the pineapple and cherry blocks and replace them with the darker background blocks.   In hind sight I should have switched to a third background when I did the cherry and pineapple blocks.  Check out what other quilters have going at Judy’s Design Wall Monday post :)

It’s DWM Time

Monday, May 17th, 2010

I have a messy design wall.  I didn’t manage to make the Pinwheel Party block this week but I did finish my mini-9 patch, yea!!  I also finished block 6 of the Vicksburg FREE BOM.  Be sure to stop by and see what other quilters have on their design walls from Judy’s DWM post.

I’m loving the fabrics I bought for this mini 9-patch and can’t wait to hand quilt it. AND I get to count the yardage out on my next stash report!!  :)

I’m not totally happy with the Vicksburg Hospitality block but can’t decide why because I like the “pineapple” fabric……maybe it’s the greenery fabric……could be it’s too dark.  I’m sure it will look better when I get all the blocks together, right?
